📚 Elyne Mitchell
Elyne Mitchell made her home at Towong Hill near Corryong after marrying Tom Mitchell in 1935. The surrounding mountain country became central to her writing, especially The Silver Brumby, first published in 1958. She began the story for her daughter Indi, seeking Australian reading material suited to a child growing up far from libraries. Mitchell also managed the property while her husband was away during the Second World War. Her High Country connection combines residence, farming responsibilities and the landscape behind a much-loved series of books.
